The Cappella Singers

This Stroud-based choir, directed by Philip Colls, was founded in 1960 by the late Mark Foster. One of Gloucestershire’s premier chamber choirs, they sing music from many different periods and in diverse styles, usually unaccompanied but occasionally with instrumental or orchestral accompaniment, including performances of Purcell, Handel and Bach with period instruments and specialist soloists. They have given concerts near Barcelona and in south-western France, in Crete, in the abbey on Iona and at the Gloucester Three Choirs Festival.

In March 2006 they sang as part of the subscription series of the Gloucester Music Society, when they gave the first performance of a commissioned work by Mark Blatchly.

In the summer of 2006 they took part jointly in a concert in Sheffield with Viva Voce, with whom they gave a concert in the Stroud Festival in 2005.

In 2007, their "Carnival in Venice" concert in Minchinhampton was received with great acclaim, and at the end of May they gave three concerts on the Islands of Mull and Iona. Recently they performed Victoria's Requiem, on Remembrance Sunday 2007, in the Lady Chapel of Gloucester Cathedral - a poignant and moving experience for choir and audience alike.
