The programme of music and readings included:
William Byrd: Justorum animae, dating from 1605.
Orlando Gibbons: I am the resurrection and the life.
This was originally set by Gibbons for five voices: only three parts survive; the missing voices have been reconstructed by David Wulstan.Heinrich Schütz: Musikalische Exequien (parts 2 & 3).
Working in Dresden, Schütz composed a most moving setting of the German Requiem, published in 1636. It includes a double choir motet and an unusual and deeply-moving setting in German of the text of the Nunc Dimittis, against which a 3-part choir sings the text of Blessed are the Dead for they rest from their labours.Stanford’s setting of Justorum animae (pub. 1905)
