1960 - Golden
Jubilee Concert - 2010

Holy Trinity
Parish Church
Amberley, Nr Stroud
Saturday 15 May 2010
Directed by
Philip Colls
with
Mark Lee (organ)
This evening saw The Cappella Singers performing a
varied programme of music by Stanford, Blatchly, Bairstow, Brahms, Dyson,
Elgar, Fauré, Handel, Holst and Vaughan Williams.
To celebrate the choir's Golden Jubilee, we performed Beati
quorum via by Stanford, which was sung at the first ever Cappella
Singers concert in 1960, directed by the late Mark Foster. We also
performed It came to pass by Mark Blatchly, which was
commissioned by the Cappella Singers for their Millennium Concert in
2000.
The sung items were interspersed with three organ solos from Mark Lee
and an 'oration' by tenor Howard Beard, who related several humorous
anecdotes from the choir's early days in his own inimitable style.
The evening ended with a very lively performance of Hallelujah from Handel's
Messiah, where our numbers were increased by many past members of the choir.
The event was marked by the production of
a Souvenir Programme, which included some historical
information and pictures of the Choir, as well as details of
the evening's performances. Click
